DIPLOMA IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (TESOL)
INTRODUCTION
This Diploma in TESOL is designed for those who are interested to pursue a career in teaching English as a Second Language or Foreign Language. It provides you with the proper tools needed to help you embark on your career as an English teacher. For the experienced teacher, it gives you the chance to improve on your teaching skills and to obtain a recognised qualification for your own career advancement.
PROGRAMME CONTENTS
Course Structure
To qualify for the Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) students must complete the following:
- Six (6) Modules
- One (1) Classroom Presentation and,
- Practice Teaching (Optional).
Core Modules
- TESOL001 - Language Teaching Principles
- TESOL002 - Language Skills
- TESOL003 - Language Systems
- TESOL004 - Classroom Management
- TESOL005 - Assessing ESL Learners
- TESOL006 - Teaching Creative Writing
Practice Teaching (Optional, Only in Singapore)
30 hours of Teaching Practice cum Classroom Observation
The TESOL Training Centre offers a supervised practicum that is designed to provide teachers with the opportunity to apply theory and practice in the field of English as a second language. Trainees will have the opportunity to observe ESL experienced teachers. Students will plan lessons, teach in an observed situation, and receive feedback and guidance on their teaching.
COURSE DURATION
Part Time: Once a week for 6 months
MODE OF DELIVERY
Blended learning includes face-to-face lectures, classroom discussion, hands-on training activities and teaching practice.
MODE OF ASSESSMENT
Written Examinations Assignments and Practical Teachings.

ADMISSION CRITERIA
To apply for the course, all trainees should meet the following admission criteria:
- 5 GCE "O" Levels with a credit in English
- If you do not fall within any of the above categories and think you are qualified for the course, please submit all your qualifications and a letter explaining why you should be considered. Your application will then be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
AWARD
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded with the Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages will be awarded by The TESOL Training Centre.
